Apple's iOS 13.4 Release Has New Memoji Stickers, Updated Mail Toolbar, CarKey API & More

Apple hasn't released a major iOS 13 update in 15 weeks. Sure, iOS 13.3.1's release was eight weeks ago, but that minor update only included bug fixes, lacking any significant new features and changes. If you've been waiting for Apple to add some excitement to your iPhone, you're in for a treat, as Apple just released on March 24.

Apple released its latest iOS update at 10 a.m. PST. Don't assume the release came out of nowhere, however. Apple tested iOS 13.4 through six beta versions, including last week's golden master, starting on Feb. 5. That means your new update went through six weeks of beta testing. We can only hope Apple managed to catch all (or most) of the major bugs along the way.

Speaking of beta testing, if you currently have 13.4 beta 6 installed on your device, you won't see this update today. That's because this update is the same build as beta 6. So, while it's disappointing not seeing a new update, know you've already had the update before everyone else.

So, what's new in iOS 13.4? Why should you rush to update from iOS 13.3.1? Simple: we've discovered at least 33 new features and changes that come with the update, which should provide plenty of motivation to jump on board. Here's a quick preview of some of the highlights:

  • Nine new Memoji stickers
  • Significant update to Mail's toolbar, new "Move" and "Compose" options
  • Home button iPhone's get iPhone X-style Control Center
  • MacOS and iOS apps can now be purchased together, consolidating platforms
  • iCloud Folder Sharing finally hits iOS
  • CarKey API will allow you to control your car with your iPhone, including sharing CarKeys with friends via iMessage
  • New streaming and download options for the TV app
  • Evidence for an upcoming OTA "OS Recovery" feature

Even if your iPhone can't run iOS 13.4, that doesn't mean you're left out of the fun. Apple also seeded older iPhones iOS 12.4.6, so make sure to check for an update today as well.

To update to iOS 13.4 or 12.4.6, open the Settings app on your iPhone, then tap "General" –> "Software Update." Follow the on-screen instructions to begin downloading the software to your device, then continue to start updating. You can also just wait for it to install automatically if you have "Automatic Updates" enabled.

Just updated your iPhone? You'll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what's new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
