How To: Apps That Work with iOS 14's New Home Screen Widgets

Apps That Work with iOS 14's New Home Screen Widgets

Chief among iOS 14's excellent new features is the overhauled home screen. Now, you can add customizable widgets that live alongside your traditional apps, and both first-party and third-party apps can take advantage of it. Talk about an upgrade. They even work in the Today View and lock screen, so you can have the reinvented widgets for one or the other — or both.

Because iOS 14 is so new, there aren't many third-party apps that work with home screen widgets just yet. Apple only gave developers one day to get their app updates into the App Store before the release of iOS 14 to the public, which is another reason there are slim pickings at the start. But the apps keep pouring in, so your favorite app may have home screen widgets very soon.

Some devs are still testing out their apps with the new style of widgets and can only be used in their beta apps. Many app betas are available in Apple's TestFlight app, though you'll need to get an invite from the developer to use most of them. If you're dying to try out some third-party widgets, however, it could be worth it.

If we know that a widget is in the works for a specific app or utility, we'll add those to the list below as well, indicating as such. That way, you know what works now, what will work, and what doesn't.

Third-Party Apps

As mentioned above, some apps require you to download and install their betas via TestFlight to try out their new widgets. Some will have their own beta program. Unlike iOS public betas, apps have limits to the number of testers that can try out the beta at once, so you might encounter some full betas. Apps without beta mentions next to them below are ready for prime time right now, and the ones without prices next to them are free.
