Apple's iOS 12.1.3 Public Beta 4 Available for iPhone

Public software testers can now run the fourth iOS 12.1.3 beta. Apple seeded this update to testers on Thursday, Jan. 10. Just like with beta 3, public beta 4 includes two resolved issues — a VoiceOver fix for ECG and Irregular Heart Rate notifications, as well as audio improvements for iPad Pros.

According to the release notes for 12.1.3 beta 4, there are two main resolved issues testers can expect to see. However, that likely doesn't paint the whole picture here. Apple almost certainly includes plenty of minor bug fixes and security patches with each beta release, even if it doesn't list each and every one in the release notes. The following are simply the two fixes that Apple felt would be best to highlight for testers.

Accessibility

  • Resolved an issue where some user interface elements were inaccessible to VoiceOver in the "Electrocardiogram (ECG)" and "Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification" sections in Health > Health Data > Heart. (46505168)

Core Audio

  • Audio performance when using some third-party apps is improved on iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and iPad Pro 11-inch models. (46037111)

To update your iPhone to iOS 12.1.3 public beta 4, you first need to have a valid public beta configuration profile from Apple. Then, if you have iOS 12's "Automatic Updates" enabled, you can let the software update overnight. To download the beta right now, launch Settings, select "General," then "Software Update." Tap "Download and Install," then follow the on-screen prompts.
