The iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max are the most advanced flagships Apple has to offer, but that doesn't mean they're immune to occasional bugs. Anything from an app plagued with issues to a faulty software update still can cause your device to freeze up, so having the ability to force a restart can come in very handy.
Thankfully, iOS has proven itself to be an extremely stable and reliable platform time and time again, and most software-related issues can be resolved by turning your iPhone off and back on. But performing this task has gotten a little trickier, as you already know if you've upgraded from an iPhone X, XS, or XR, since the process is the same.
If you're coming from a Home button-equipped iPhone like the 7 series, on the other hand, you'll need to get accustomed to a whole new process of shutting down your notched devise. This entails either having to hit the "Shut Down" button within the Settings app, or simultaneously pressing and holding on the Side and volume up buttons.
Just as the power down button combo has carried over from the iPhone X all the way to the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max, the process of doing a hard reboot has also stayed the same for all models. To do so, start off by quickly pressing and releasing the volume up button, then pressing and releasing volume down.
Now, press and hold the Side button for around 10 seconds or until the screen cuts out, but don't let go of the button until your iPhone turns back on to its Apple boot screen. To summarize:
- Press volume up
- Press volume down
- Press and hold Side button for about 10 seconds
- Release Side button when you see the Apple boot screen
After following the steps above, your iPhone will restart even if it was frozen. From there, you can do some more troubleshooting on your device and retrace your steps to track down the root cause of the issue, be it a buggy app or a software glitch that might require an update or restoring back to factory settings.
