Apple Releases iOS 14.6 Beta 3 for iPhone, Adds Fix for Performance Bug

Apple released the third iOS 14.6 beta today, Monday, May 10. The update fixes a bug that could cause your iPhone to experience performance issues after startup.

Apple seeded developers iOS 14.6 dev beta 3 just past 10 a.m. PDT, the company's standard release time for developer beta updates. Apple subsequently released the third public beta for 14.6 at 1 p.m. PDT, another standard time. Whether you're a developer or public beta tester, you should now see 14.6 beta 3 on your iPhone.

This update comes 10 days after the company seeded developers and public testers the second 14.6 beta, which introduced minor, under-the-hood updates that most users wouldn't notice.

iOS & iPadOS 14.6 Beta 3 Release Notes

Overview

  • The iOS & iPadOS 14.6 SDK provides support to develop apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running iOS & iPadOS 14.6 beta 3. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 12.5, available from the Mac App Store. For information on the compatibility requirements for Xcode 12.5, see Xcode 12.5 Release Notes.

General: Resolved

  • Fixes an issue during startup where iPhone may experience reduced performance. (77540788)

Xcode: Deprecations

  • Don't use the iOS MinimumOSVersion information property list key to declare the minimum release of macOS in which your app runs. Use LSMinimumSystemVersion instead. (73890473)
  • Future releases of macOS ignore the MinimumOSVersion key in Mac apps, including apps built with Mac Catalyst.
  • Future releases of macOS use the LSMinimumSystemVersion key in iOS apps built with Xcode 12.5 or later. If an iOS app doesn't include an LSMinimumSystemVersion key, future releases of macOS compare the app's MinimumOSVersion with the version of its Mac Catalyst runtime to determine compatibility.
