Apple released the latest update for iPhones, iOS 12.1.1, on Wednesday, Dec. 5. It introduces a few new features to iOS 12 as a whole. The software has been in beta testing since Halloween of this year, spending just over one month in the hands of beta testers.
Chief among the new features is Haptic Touch support for notifications on the iPhone XR. Until now, iPhone XR users had to sacrifice what was a 3D Touch-only feature — the ability to preview notifications. Now, iPhone XR users can achieve the same effect with just a long press.
Aside from that, everybody else will see the return of Live Photos during a FaceTime video call, as well as an easier to access flip camera and mute button for all FaceTime calls. Sprint users also get some VoLTE support.
To download iOS 12.1.1, open your iPhone's Settings app. Tap "General," then select "Software Update." Then follow the instructions on-screen to download and install the software. If you have "Automatic Updates" enabled, the software will update itself overnight.
As for security issues resolved, Apple mentions fixes for Airport, Disk Images, FaceTime, File Provider, Kernel, LinkPresentation, Profiles, Safari, and WebKit on its security content page. For more details on those, make sure to check out its report.
