Apple announced the long-rumored iPhone SE with 5G capabilities on Tuesday, March 8, and the preorder and release dates are just around the corner.
The third-generation iPhone SE is vastly improved over its 2020 predecessor thanks to the A15 Bionic chip, which is two generations newer than the now-30-months-old A13 Bionic. Compared to the iPhone 8, the CPU is 1.8 times faster, GPU is 2.2 times faster, and the Neural Engine is 26 times faster in the 2022 iPhone SE 3.
The overall design is pretty much the same, with a 4.7-inch display and Home button with Touch ID. Its advancements include the durable front and rear glass that first appeared on the iPhone 13 series, IP67 water and dust resistance, improved battery performance, 12 MP for the camera, and 5G network compatibility. There are also three colors to choose from: Midnight, Starlight, and Product Red.
The new iPhone SE, which runs the latest iOS 15 software, is available for preorder this Friday, March 11, beginning at 5 a.m. PST. Its full release is just a week later, on Friday, March 18. The base 64 GB model costs $429, and there are 128 GB ($479) and 256 GB ($579) versions that cost a bit more. Without a trade-in, you can choose to pay monthly for the new SE 3 starting at $17.87 per month from the Apple Store.
