iOS 12.1.1 Public Beta 2 Released Shortly After Dev Beta 2

Registered iOS developers received their first taste of 12.1.1 dev beta 2 on Wednesday, Nov. 7, and public beta testers received the iOS 12.1.1 public beta 2 shortly thereafter.

Public testers excited about a new update should know 12.1.1 beta 2 is a minor upgrade over beta 1 — Apple included bug fixes and security patches, and not much else this time around. While it's important to update as quickly as possible, testers shouldn't expect any new features or major changes upon installation.

To download and update your iPhone to iOS 12.1.1 public beta 2, you first need to sign up for the beta program and have a valid configuration profile. If you have iOS 12's new "Automatic Updates" enabled, you can let the software update overnight. To download the beta right now, however, launch the Settings app, select "General," then "Software Update." Tap "Download and Install," then follow the on-screen prompts.

As a whole, iOS 12.1.1 fixes the FaceTime user interface so that the flip camera button is more easily accessible again, and it marks the return of the Live Photo button within the app, which was removed in iOS 12. There's also the ability to turn off the nano-SIM account for dual-SIM iPhones, an updated Apple Watch app icon for Series 4, and VoLTE support for Sprint. Those with iPads can also hide the Channels column in News. And there's a TLS certificate security enhancement for everyone.

Just updated your iPhone? You'll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what's new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
