1) Make your desktop clean.

7) Disable widgets.
Widgets are considered to be applications stored on a dedicated desktop. You may add as many different widgets as you like, like a virtual aquarium, an interactive calendar or a convenient weather widget. But remember that while some of them are dedicated to help you and solve problems, many of them just absorb the resources. Thus, they also slow down the system performance.
